It's been a busy year! I spent all of last summer writing an original musical to coincide with my school's upper elementary history curriculum. I spent all of the fall editing it, and all winter and early spring slowly bringing it to life, casting, directing, and rehearsing it. I would love to see you at my show not just because I've been working so hard on it, but because I believe it has a message that is necessary in these scary times. Here are the promotional materials for it:
Get ready for a captivating 45-minute musical, How Women Lost the Vote, written and directed by Becky Greenstein!
Set in early New Jersey, this original production brings to life a little-known chapter of American history—when certain women and free Black citizens could legally vote… and did! In the 1807 county election, two sisters—spirited Rebecca and gentle Martha Githens—work tirelessly to help eligible women exercise that right. But when voter fraud spirals out of control, state legislators roll back voting laws, erasing progress in an instant.
With humor, heart, and history, this one-act musical weaves together moments of farce, lively musical rounds, and rousing anthems to explore an all-too-relevant question: How do we move forward when our civil liberties are taken away?
